Ballyboden St Endas 1-13 Na Fianna 2-6
The folly of conceding frees was revealed as Boden knocked over 8 points from placed balls plus another from a 45 against Na Fianna in Mobhi Road.
Anne Griffin accounted for six and Ciara Lucey added two more as Boden also clocked up 13 wides over the hour.
Boden opened the better with two frees from Anne Griffin and took a decisive step in the 16th minute when Emer Lucey first-timed to the net for 1-4 to 0-2 lead. But Na Fianna showed some fine form in the second quarter and full-forward Eve O'Brien was quite a handful scoring a fine goal in the 27th minute before Muireann O'Gorman added a neat point. At half-time Boden led by 1-6 to 1-3.
Two early second half points from frees pushed Boden five clear but for the next 13 minutes, the home side were in control with Arlene Cushen, Elaine O'Meara and 'keeper Hannah McInerney dealing ably with the Boden attack.
A 45 from Ciara Berkeley was followed by a great Muireann O'Gorman before another Berkeley point from play levelled the game with 16 minutes remaining.
But with the game finely balanced the experience of Sile nic Coitir and especially centre back Fiona Ní Chorcoráin repelled several Na Fianna attacks.
From their clearances Boden took the game to Na Fianna and indiscipline cost them dearly as Anne Griffin and Ciara Lucey pointed frees. An excellent score from Denise McGrath from play was also crucial as Boden won the fourth quarter by 0-5 to 0-1.
