Congratulations to Lucan Sarsfields on their Féile na nGael success on Saturday, 21 June.
For the 3rd time in 7 years, Lucan are the top U14 camogie team in Ireland with victory in Div 1 Regional Feile na nGael in Semple Stadium, Saturday 21st June.
In this first year of the newly structured Feile, Lucan, as Dublin Champions, were matched up against the champions of Cork (Newcestown), Tipperary (Silvermines) and Clare (Kilmaley) in Group 1.
Lucan were magnificent in those 3 group games – only conceding 2 points
Lucan 2-4 Newcestown 0-0
Lucan 4-6 Silvermines 0-2
Lucan 1-7 Kilmaley 0-0
The final against Thomastowm (Kilkenny Champions) was a very different affair. Thomastown had come out of a group including the Champions of Limerick (Ballybrown), Wexford (St. Martins and Galway (Sarsfields).
Thomastown got off to a flying start with a superbly taken goal but the Lucan girls never gave up and fought back to hold a 3 point lead at half time.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Thomastown scoring 2 more goals and picking up a couple of points. Lucan were facing into a very new scenario in the last few minutes, finding themselves a couple of points down. But for this group of talented, dedicated and committed ladies, it was just another challenge that they were up for.
The last minute was like something from a movie script. A 45 with sixty second on the clock to equalise followed by a 40 metre free with only ten seconds remaining for the win. Both were straight over the black spot and with the final whistle pandemonium ensued.
Lucan Sarsfields 1-09 Thomastown 3-02
