Naomh Brid - U15 Division 1 League Winners!
The U15 division1 league title was still up for grabs when Naomh Brid and Lucan Sarsfields met on Sunday morning in their final and much anticipated league game.
For the Lucan girls it was all or nothing, they needed a win to force a playoff.
For Brigids it was a case of unfinished business, having been beaten by Lucan in this year’s U15 div1 championship final and also finishing runners up in league and championship for the past two seasons, they had a point to prove.
The stage was set for a classic and neither team disappointed.
Brigids raced into an early lead with two fine points only to be pegged back by two top class Lucan goals.
What followed was a truly entertaining game in which both sets of girls put on a display of very skilful Camogie, intelligent team play and showed a level of passion and commitment that sent a ripple of pride through the parents and supporters of both teams.
Unfortunately in games of such high quality it is a pity for any team to lose, but when the Brigids girls responded strongly to the early Lucan challenge and took a two point lead into half time there was a real belief in their camp that they could finally get over that elusive finish line.
Within 10 minutes of the second half the gap had grown to six points and although the Lucan girls threw everything they had into the game it was not to be their day.
The final scoreline of 5-7 to 3-7 in Naomh Brid’s favour capped off a great season for the Russell Park girls, having achieved 100% success in the league by winning all ten of their games.
At the end of such a hard fought game it was commendable to see how Lucan were so gracious in defeat and after some kind words from their mentors and from a proud outgoing Minor Board Chair, Patsy Powell, it was fantastic to see both sets of players gathered together, many of whom play alongside each other on our county panels.
Congratulations to both Lucan and Naomh Brid on their achievements this year in the league and championship.
Honours shared, but one overall winner – Dublin Camogie.
