Plunketts outplay Ballinteer to land Senior 2 championship title.
Plunketts made dramatic start to this Senior 2 final when Ciara McDonnell goaled within the first minute. Ballinteer responded immediately and were only denied a gaol when goalkeeper Louise Curry managed to scramble the ball over the line. The superb Fiona Hayes slotted over the resulting 45. Ballinteer had several goal chances during the first 10 minutes. But resolute defending prevented Ballinteer from raising the green flag. Fiona Hayes pointed two 45s during this period. Hard to believe despite the good play from both sides that neither side scored during the next 15 minutes. It was Ballinteer who finished the half the stronger with points from Ambe Trainor and 2 from Fiona Hayes. Half time score: Ballinteer 1-05 Plunketts 1-02
Bur the second half belonged to the more experienced Plunketts side. Playing with the slight hill and breeze they outscored the Southsiders 1-7 to 0-1. Aoife Bugler, who had a great second half scored two early points to settle her team. Ciara Carolan struck the decisive goal ten minutes into the half putting Plunketts ahead for the first time. Points from Aoife Bugler (2) and another from Ciara Carolan had Plunketts 5 points ahead with 5 minutes remaining. Lizzy McSweeney and captain Aisling Carolan were everywhere showing great leadership. Fiona Hayes pointed (free) was Ballinteer's only score of the half. It was fitting that Aisling ended the scoring with a delightful point from the left wing with minutes to go. Final score Plunketts 2-09 Ballinteer 1-6
